Concussions in Girls and Boys involved with Sports

There has been a lot of talk recently about girls and boys, and young people involved with sports, having head injuries and concussions. Injuries involving head and concussion type injuries in young people can lead to long term issues in loss of memory, motor control and vestibular dysfunction, general movement disfunction and balance and proprioceptive deficits.

Arroyo Physical Therapy works with young people who have or have had head injuries and concussions due to their sport, resulting in vestibular dysfunction, balance and motor deficits. Reporting these types of disorders and accidents are becoming more common – or maybe just more recognized due to professional athletes and their coaches and trainers finally starting to acknowledge its prevelence – and can be treated successfully if treated early.

If you, or someone you know, is involved with an impact sport, such as but not limited to: boxing, soccer, football, platform or springboard diving (due to the impact of hitting the water – head first), etc., remember, vestibular issues related to concussion can be treated successfully.

Regaining Confidence After a Fall!

Sometimes it can feel like everything you do – getting out of bed, going from sit to stand, getting in and out of your car to general walking around the house, neighborhood or community – is a chore. And if you’ve had a recent or multiple falls, this fear of falling can sometimes be over-powering and you just start moving less so you don’t fall.

Getting the tools and confidence back to be able to move and walk with confidence can be scary. But it can be done. Here at Arroyo Physical Therapy in Pasadena, CA, we strive to not only provide you with the best one on one care, but to educate you and teach you tools that will build your strength and confidence with the activities that are important to you. Our goal is to make you FUNCTIONAL and safe.
